Medieval Festival
Medieval Festival for Acorn Children
On June 8th, the kindergarten and school aged children who attend Acorn Early Learning Centre were treated to a day in the country, at a Medieval Festival at Miss Jo's. After many months of studying Dragons, building a Dragon and learning her lessons, it was time to proceed to the next level...a Castle Day!
It turned out to be a wonderful day with 62 children attending the festival and many of them stayed for a King's feast and sleepover. It was the perfect wrap up to a dragon project which has lasted many months. Many thanks to Chris for building the castle in Miss Jo's front yard, Bonnie McQuillan (Acorn Artist), to Lisa Poushinksy (Acorn Piano Teacher) for playing guitar and singing, to Micky Moir for bringing her minis (horses) for the children, to Kandie and Pete Saunders for all their ideas and support throughout the days prior and on that day, and to the staff of Acorn who donated their time.
Children's activities were focued on "what are the jobs and skills that you would need if you lived in a castle". Activities included archery, sword fun (foam swords), rope climbing, feeding the animals, caring for horses, trampoline fun, working in the garden, making clay dishes, painting, cooking, setting up the tables for the feast, building, working with leather to name a few. All children had so much fun with parents picking up the remainder of the children the next morning after a breakfast fit for a king.
